Course Description

This 16-day internship gives a step-by-step, hands-on path into robotics and automation. Each day combines short lessons with practical labs using Arduino and ESP boards so concepts are learned by building and testing real circuits. The flow starts with core electronics and microcontrollers, then moves into sensors, actuators, communication, and simple IoT projects. Students complete guided builds like obstacle-avoiding robots, RFID door locks, and smart irrigation systems.

What students do

Learners wire LEDs, buzzers, and sensors on breadboards, write Arduino code for input/output, and read live data to drive decisions. Motor control is practiced using L293D/L298N drivers for direction and speed, and Bluetooth modules are used for remote commands. ESP32/ESP8266 sessions introduce Wi‑Fi control and basic dashboards or serial monitoring for IoT-style demos. Team time is built in for planning, building, testing, and presenting the final project.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the internship, students will be able to:

  • Explain key concepts in robotics, automation, microcontrollers, and IoT
  • Build and test sensor-based circuits (LDR, IR, ultrasonic, soil, gas, rain)
  • Control motors and actuators with Arduino using L293D and L298N driver ICs
  • Implement RFID, keypad, and Bluetooth access/control systems for real tasks
  • Develop simple IoT demonstrations using ESP32/ESP8266
  • Collaborate in teams to deliver a full robotics project with presentation and feedback

Project and certification

All learning is hands-on and leads to a final demo day where teams test, debug, and present their projects. Successful participants receive a completion certificate recognizing practical skills in robotics and automation.

  • Voltage, Current, Resistance (Ohm’s Law).
  • Power supply basics.
  • Electronic components: Resistor, Capacitor, Diode, Transistor.
  • Activity: Identify components + LED glow with resistor.
  • Breadboard connections.
  • Series and Parallel circuits.
  • Buzzer & LED interfacing without Arduino.
  • Activity: LED series/parallel connections on breadboard.

  • Arduino UNO (detailed study).
  • Arduino Nano & Mega (differences).
  • ESP32 & ESP8266 (overview for IoT).
  • Activity: Installing Arduino IDE + first code “LED Blink”.
  • Digital output (LED, buzzer).
  • Delay, pinMode, digitalWrite.
  • Activity: Arduino UNO – LED blink + buzzer ON/OFF program.

  • Types of sensors – analog, digital.
  • LDR sensor. 
  • IR sensor.
  • Activities: 1. Auto streetlight using LDR.
                    2. Object detection with IR.
  • Ultrasonic sensor. 
  • Rain sensor.
  • Activities: 1. Distance measurement on serial monitor.
                    2. Rain detection alert system.
  • Soil Moisture sensor. 
  • Gas sensor.
  • Activities: 1. Auto plant watering system.
                    2. Gas leak alarm with buzzer.
  • RFID, 4x4 Keypad. 
  • Bluetooth HC-05.
  • Activities: 1. RFID-based access system.
                    2. Password entry with keypad.
                    3. Bluetooth mobile → Arduino LED control.

  • What are actuators?
  • DC Motor, Servo Motor basics.
  • Activity: 1. Servo motor control with Arduino.
                  2. Servo control with sensor (Ultrasonic → Servo movement).

  • Why motor drivers are required.
  • L293D Motor Driver IC.
  • Activity: 1. Run DC motor forward & backward.
                  2. Motor driver with Arduino UNO.
  • L298N Motor Driver + Arduino Motor Shield.
  • Bluetooth communication with HC-05.
  • Activity: Build a Bluetooth-controlled car (Forward, Backward, Left, Right).

  • ESP8266 & ESP32 – features & IoT role.
  • Using Arduino IDE with ESP boards.
  • Activity: Control LED/Fan via Internet (IoT demo).

  • Activity: Project building in teams. Students will choose projects like Smart Home Automation (Bluetooth/IoT), Obstacle Avoidance Robot, RFID Door Lock System, Smart Irrigation using Soil + Rain sensor.
